In a brief 8-week trial of 34 obese older individuals, those randomised to a low carb diet with less than or equal to 10% carbohydrate calories shed three times more visceral fat than those assigned to a regular low fat diet. In addition, the low carb diet group dropped roughly 8% more total body fat and kept more muscle mass.

Because men are more likely than women to have visceral fat, any diet that targets this detrimental form of body fat has the potential to significantly enhance men's health and reduce disease risk.

Many additional studies have shown that low carb diets with varied carbohydrate percentages help people lose weight, improve their blood fat levels, and lower their blood sugar levels.

According to research, moderate carb diets are easier to sustain over time than very low carb diets.

Because one of the most significant considerations when choosing a diet is the capacity to stick to it over time, a low-carb approach is likely to be the superior option for long-term weight reduction.
